Willow bark has been used throughout the centuries and civilisations. Approximately 500 years before our era, the Chinese knew its antipyretic and analgesic properties. The ancient Greeks also used it to reduce fever and relieve pain and its use was very extensive in Medieval Europe, amongst others, to stop vomiting, and remove warts. From Florida to Alaska, willow bark was and is still used abundantly by the Native Americans as a painkiller and antipyretic.
